Agenda: | Did you know that existing property tax exemptions for qualifying senior citizens range from $400 to $1,000, but the average property tax bill for the Shutesbury residents receiving these exemptions is $5,890? How can we help them lower the balance due on those bills? One way is to adopt what is called a "Means-Tested Real Estate Property Tax Exemption." Article 18 on the Annual Town Meeting warrant seeks a vote to authorize the Select Board to ask our state legislators to file a bill that -- when passed -- would allow Shutesbury to offer this exemption and provide meaningful property tax relief to Shutesbury's seniors. If you'd like to find out more about this exemption before the June 12 Annual Town Meeting, Administrative Assessor Kewvin Rudden will be holding two Zoom webconferences to explain it and answer questions about it..
