4. Median design: Lost some annuals, perhaps due to lack of precipitation, then periods of extreme heat-. Jean planted.2 [perennial] sedum to fill in gaps at the North Street site in July, and they seem to be doing well. This year some osteospermum didnt seem as hearty, though htyssum and marigolds did well. Several rose bushes looked spindly and needed atten-tion. However, medians looked wonderful from the road and DBC received many complements lrom the community. The addition of perennial dwarf phlox, dwarf ornamental fountain grass and coreopsis have been suggested for consideration in planning for next season.
5. A supplement of fresh soil from Holiday Farms might be needed to refresh DBC garden spaces as part of winterization process: Dumping soil in the middle of medians spreading more evenly toward edges in springtime. Also, immediately following spring 2018 planting, an addition of top dressing would help with retaining moisture throughout the growing season,
6. All baskets look wonderful. New soil and liners produced vigorous growth.Thanks to the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department for partnering with the DBC to keep medians watered. However, in extreme heat and when planting, watering might be needed daily. Have spoken with Dalton Highway to inquire about a water Source directly at tle medians. This is complicate as State Highway is involved. DHD Supervisor, John Houghly said he will investigate.
7. DBC is asking the Select Board for an increase in the Town's stipend, from $500.00 to $700.00, due to the increased costs of supplies. DBC has never had an increase from the town in 17 years. Currently, DBC relies on our gift account, which is rapidly diminishing after our regular annual cost overrun.
8. Term limits for DBC office holders: the maximum in any office should not exceed 17 years. Therefore, a new chairperson is required in 2018.
9. Town Hall water source is shut off: the hose burst following not being turned off and flooded.
10. plan for removal of bridge /library boxes and annual plants removal. Possible dates/ times.
