Agenda: | Public Hearing upon the house at 100 River Road West. The brick portion of this building is believed to have been constructed in 1808, for Deacon Job Spofford. It was then the most elegantly finished dwelling in Berlin. The woodwork finish in the two front rooms on the first floor is particularly excellent. The double stairway in the center hallway is likewise very impressive. The house is among the few brick buildings of the 19th Century in the town and the only one with twin chimneys at each end.
Also, the barn at 100 River Road West. This is a large 19th Century barn which was in use as a dairy barn through the year 1969. Various appendages of the building indicate the changes in technology related to dairy farming into the mid 20th Century. Through the period of the Spooky World operation, the building was improved for an adaptive use, making it a candidate for further economic usefulness in the future. |
