Shirley, MA Open Space and Recreation Plan Committee

This committee is charged with completing a new Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) for the town. An OSRP is intended to help guide land-use decisions relating to the protection, acquisition, and management of lands for conservation and outdoor recreation. Having an approved OSRP makes the town eligible to apply for and receive a variety of kinds of state grants, including those for land acquisition, protection of historic spaces and buildings, maintenance of recreational fields, creation and maintenance of trails, and other activities. A draft plan was approved by the state in December, 2014, subject to completion of ten requirements. Plan components that the OSRP committee is working on include getting public feedback on the town's open space and recreation needs; identifying needs and opportunities relating to accessibility; updating information on changes in the town's population, growth, economy, and land use over the past 15 years; and filling out a chart describing all of the open-space and recreation lands owned by the town.
